Abode – Redefining Home Improvement Financing
UX/UI and Design System for a Financial Services Platform
Project Overview
Abode set out to change how home improvement financing is understood and accessed. Their vision was to give contractors, property managers, and homeowners a platform that feels like a true extension of their businesses rather than a third-party add-on. They wanted to be positioned as a partner in growth, not just a lender. This meant the website needed to communicate trust, flexibility, and professionalism designed with the same rigor as a fintech UX project in a way that could stand out from a crowded and dated competitive landscape.
Problem Statement
Competitor sites in the home improvement financing market often looked dated, generic, and cluttered. Many lacked clear user journeys, had clunky loan application flows, and overused generic stock imagery. Abode needed to differentiate with a professional financial services website design that was approachable and conversion-driven. The challenge was serving two audiences: contractors/property managers as the primary users, and homeowners as a secondary audience — all within one cohesive platform.
Problem Solution
As the Web Designer and Art Director, I went beyond the client’s starting wireframes to redesign the experience from the ground up. I created new information flows, built a flexible design system for fintech-style scalability, and emphasized a visual language that conveyed clarity and trust. The UI leaned into modern typography, white space, and custom iconography to simplify complex financing options. Authentic imagery and purposeful messaging reinforced Abode’s credibility as a financial partner.
Creative Process
The process began with competitive research into both fintech web design patterns and direct financing competitors. I then produced three distinct moodboard directions to help the team align on tone and visual style. From there, I restructured flows like the dealer application form and the homeowner payment calculator, ensuring they reflected best practices in lending platform UX design. As the design system evolved, I introduced reusable components, custom icons, and responsive layouts for both desktop and mobile. The project concluded with high-fidelity prototypes, stakeholder walkthroughs, and a detailed handoff to developers.
Key Features & Flows
Designing Abode’s platform was about making financing feel simple and trustworthy. The dealer application form was streamlined into clear steps, applying best practices in loan application UX design to reduce friction for contractors and property managers.
For homeowners, the payment calculator UX turned complex numbers into clear monthly costs, helping users see financing as approachable and manageable.
To unify the experience, I created a design system for a financial services platform with typography, color, and custom iconography. This scalable system ensured consistency across pages and gave Abode the flexibility to grow.
These features show how thoughtful financial services website design can simplify complexity, build trust, and drive conversions.
Outcomes
The website launched as a modern, conversion-driven financing platform. The homepage establishes Abode’s value with confident messaging and clear CTAs, while custom icons highlight financing options at a glance. Contractors and property managers benefit from tailored sections, and homeowners can easily explore options through the loan calculator UX flow. The dealer application process feels approachable yet professional, reducing friction for new partners. The FAQ page simplifies decision-making with plain-language answers. Client feedback was highly positive, and the site delivered strong conversion rates, positioning Abode as a modern, trustworthy partner in the financial services market.
